Moles edged out in tight contest
Wantage Town 1 Binfield 0
HOPES of a big cup clash for the Moles were dashed by a second narrow defeat of the week.
Binfield would have hosted Milton Keynes Dons had they seen off Hellenic Premier rivals Wantage in the twice rearranged clash on Tuesday evening.
But they went down to a
Damien Robertson penalty, which condemned the Moles to a fourth defeat in five games.
Roger Herridge shuffled his pack following the weekend loss against Bishops Cleeve with Will Shaw, Carlo Santoro, Danny Horscroft and Jemel Johnson all handed starts as Charley Tuttle, Khalid Senussi, Josh Howell and Sean Moore dropped out.
In-form Wantage started the better of the two sides at Alfredian Park, going close to taking an early lead when debutant Robertson’s effort was saved by Chris
Former Binfield keeper Garry Aulsberry had to be alert in the Wantage net to thwart Santoro before the deadlock was broken on 30 minutes when Robertson tucked home from the spot after a handball in the box.
The Moles almost equalised after a goalmouth scramble before Johnson blazed over from a good position.
Binfield performed well after the break without creating many clear cut openings, until secondhalf stoppage time when Johnson’s free-kick was brilliantly saved by Aulsberry.
