Boars, Kestrels, Su­mas re­turn to train­ing un­der FA guide­lines

EVERSLEY & Cal­i­for­nia, Wood­ley United and Wok­ing­ham & Emm­brook Ladies first teams have both made a re­cent re­turn to train­ing for the first time since their football sea­sons were deemed ‘null and void’ in March.

Everlsey, who com­pete in the Com­bined Coun­ties Di­vi­sion One, and Wood­ley, who play in Hel­lenic League Di­vi­sion One East, both had their sea­sons sus­pended for the 2019/20 cam­paign.

How­ever, the sides have re­cently re­turned to train­ing for the first time since the start of the pan­demic.

Boars first-team man­agerMatty An­gell con­firmed that his team have re­turned to train­ing un­der so­cial dis­tanc­ing mea­sures and looked for­ward to the start of next sea­son.

He said: “We had a great first week of train­ing with good num­bers. We saw some new and old faces work­ing hard, but more im­por­tantly it was just ev­ery­one be­ing to­gether, hav­ing a laugh.”

Six mem­bers of the Kestrels also re­turned to train­ing at the start of last week.

In a tweet, the club said: “Some so­cially dis­tanced train­ing achieved with six of the @Wood­leyUt­dFC se­nior squad. Re­ally good to see them.”

The Su­mas Ladies team re­turned to train­ing yes­ter­day and are fol­low­ing FA Covid-19 guide­lines. The team are look­ing for new play­ers, and a new coach fol­low­ing the re­tire­ment of for­mer man­ager John Lilley.

Mean­while, AFC Crowthorne Ladies have folded.

A state­ment re­leased on their Twit­ter page read: “De­spite all ef­forts to re­cruit for the 2020/21 sea­son, re­tain­ing play­ers and gain­ing new ones has been par­tic­u­larly chal­leng­ing.

“Man­age­ment have taken the dif­fi­cult de­ci­sion to fold AFC Crowthorne Ladies.

“A ded­i­cated core of play­ers turned up week in, week out to give their all in the in­cred­i­bly com­pet­i­tive Di­vi­sion 3E of the Thames Val­ley Coun­tiesWomen’s Football League.

“Man­age­ment would like to thank all the play­ers, pre­vi­ous man­age­ment and sup­port­ers for their time and ef­fort and wish ev­ery­one good luck for the fu­ture.”
