THE COTTAGE, CRAVEN COTTAGE, TEALLACH COTTAGE, THE OLD FORGE

- Carol Derham

“This depiction is based on a photograph provided by Ray Gigg who lives at the Old Forge. Ray recollects that as far as he can remember The Row consisted of five houses and a forge which belonged to the Craven Vale Estate and were auctioned off on 16th April 1958. The forge was last used during WW2 by William Bunce and Son in the manufacture of snow ploughs etc. The area which is now The Old Forge garden along with the barn was known as Goddard’s Yard and Barn. At the other end of the row was one of the village shops run by Mrs. Rose Simpson selling mostly sweets and fizzy drinks.” —
