This England - - London Pride -

Sir: I recently visited a long-standing family friend who emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, from the Midlands in 2003. She is known affectionately in our family as Aunty Violet.

Although she absolutely adores living in Vancouver she keeps in touch with her heritage through This England. She has very fond memories of her life in the Midlands and relishes the quarterly instalments of your publication. The copy she showed me was very well thumbed!

In particular, she told me that the magazine is dear to her heart because her first subscription was initiated by her late husband as a surprise for her birthday.

I have very fond memories of Aunty Violet looking after me as I grew up. There is a particular photo of us together, which was taken when I was only about a year old. So, on this trip to Vancouver I took the photograph with me, and we featured it in a new picture with my daughter (Edith) who is a year old!

If there is any chance you could make a mention of my wonderful Aunty Violet, then I would be so grateful! At 94 years of age she is certainly a great role model of someone who lives a full and interesting life — and still drinks Yorkshire tea and loves England! — ALICE RACKLEY, TOOTING, LONDON.
