Window on the world
Our local craft shop, Little Shop Of Hobbies, has enthusiastically supported local charities in various ways. Last year staff invited people to come in and knit a few rows of a massive Morecambe Football Club scarf, charging £1 a row, which was donated to St John’s Hospice.
This year being the centenary of the end of World War I and the founding of the Royal Air Force, their shop window has reflected this theme. They also came up with a magnificent project: a bicycle decorated with crocheted poppies, with one wheel as a knitted RAF roundel. This has sat outside the shop throughout the summer, drawing many favourable comments and photographs, and thousands of “hits” on Facebook. It has also made appearances at Armed Forces Day, an RAF100 concert and the Battle of Britain Service.
Thanks go to Barbara, Vicky and team for their inspired idea. There are plans for 2019 but they’re not letting on yet!
If you’re in Morecambe you will find Little Shop of Hobbies at 11/13 Pedder Street, postcode LA4 5DY. Even if you’re not a crafter, the shop is fascinating to look round or for a source of gift ideas. You can also find it on Facebook at https:// www.facebook.com/little-shop-of-hobbies.
