The tem­ple of Kukulkan (a Maya feath­ered ser­pent de­ity sim­i­lar to the Aztec Quet­zal­coatl), also known as El Castillo (The Cas­tle) at Chichen Itza in Yu­catan, Mex­ico. This site is one of the largest Maya ci­ties in the world and lasted for nearly 600 years (600 - 1200 AD). It is home to many dif­fer­ent ar­chi­tec­tural styles which is said to ref lect a di­verse pop­u­la­tion - which was the largest in the Maya world. El Castillo is a step pyra­mid that stands at 30 me­tres (98 feet) high with nine plat­forms.
