Many airlines fly direct to St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport from the UK and Europe, including British Airways, KLM, Air France, Swiss Air and Aeroflot. If you are coming from America, Canada, Asia or Australia, you will have to fly via Moscow or a European city. The airport lies 17 km south of the city. For an independent traveller, the safest way to get to your accommodation is to get an authorised taxi – the Pulvcho firm is recommended. They have a large desk as you come through customs, and there is a smaller booth outside on the pavement. They offer a ‘limo’ service and a ‘regular’ one which is cheaper. Costs in 2016 were €20 or 1600 Roubles.
