Chamber of Commerce Museum

Timeless Travels Magazine - - CHINA -

This museum is on the site of the old Chamber of Commerce, said to be the first in existence in China. The original Chamber of Commerce was built upon the merchant and provincial guilds.

From the street entrance there is a small courtyard with a couple of rooms off each side and then you progress to the second courtyard with more rooms opening in the same manner. In each room are documents and artefacts telling the story of both the original organisation and its role in history. There are lots of fabulous, old, black-and-white photographs to enjoy and old documents on display – sadly with no translations. But it is worth a visit to enjoy the architecture and the sense of history of the site.
