Xietongqing Draft Bank Vaults

Timeless Travels Magazine - - CHINA -

The Xietongqing Draft Bank was first established in Pingyao in 1856. What makes this different to the Risengchang Bank is that this former bank had underground vaults protected by live-in guards.

Therefore after visiting the 30 exhibition rooms, you can descend into the vaults and explore the cave-like rooms filled with stacks of faux gold and silver ingots.

It is hugely atmospheric and gives a good idea of what the vaults were like in the 19th century. This bank continued for more than 50 years, closing in 1913.
