WE SAY: Taylormade’s worked hard to wring out extra juice on last year’s M2. That was a hit because of its mix of distance and forgiveness, a potent one for club golfers. Against the old M2 our test pro gained seven yards carry from the same ball speed. Simon added two yards of carry from 3mph ball speed and CJ upped ball speed by 2mph. That says there’s a decent amount to be gained from the new M2. If you require a degree of forgiveness, too, you’ll struggle to beat it.

VERDICT: We love the bigger size. It is really easy to generate speed with, feels very lively and you don’t have to be on top of your game to get the best out of it. For most of us that’s a nice place to be.
