DOUGHERTY’S STORY
August 1997 Won the Faldo Junior Series at the age of just 15. He would go on to win another two Faldo Series titles, as well as the 1999 World Boys Championship.
August 2001 Turned pro a day after helping the GB&I Walker Cup team win on US soil.
December 2002 Finished 36th on the European Tour Order of Merit, earning him The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award.
January 2005 Earned his maiden win on the European Tour with victory at the Caltex Masters in Singapore.
June 2007 Led after the first round of the US Open following a two-under par 68 at Oakmont. He ended the tournament in a tie for seventh.
October 2007 Won the 2007 Alfred Dunhill Links, a result which lifted him inside the world’s top 50.
April 2008 Competed in his first and only Masters, finishing T33.
June 2009 Claimed his third and final European Tour title at the BMW International Open in Germany.
December 2010 Married fellow broadcaster Di Stewart.
December 2011 Lost his European Tour card after making only one cut from 32 events all year.
January 2015 Joined the Sky golf team on a permanent basis. He moved into a presenting role a year later.
October 2016 Called time on his playing career, bowing out at the Dunhill Links following the 54-hole cut.
