MX-5 OWNERS CLUB
The latest news and updates from one of the largest and most popular MX-5 clubs in the world
Next year is a big one for the UK’S MX-5 Owners Club as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee. The anniversary also marks 30 years since the introduction of the MX-5, so you can be assured of some fantastic events and activities being planned in the year ahead by way of celebration,
Helping the Club kick off this special year is when it takes centre stage in Hall 1 at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC, 9–11 November. The show is the UK’S biggest classic car show with over 3000 cars on display and most of the vast NEC’S exhibition halls are dedicated to it.
The MX5OC has been invited to exhibit in the show’s main hall, acknowledging the great work, size and enthusiastic membership that it brings to the UK’S automotive community. The MX-5 is also gathering a real following in the classic car community, and quite right too as it approaches its 30th anniversary. Many of the thousands of visitors who stop in at the Club stand tell us they have an MX-5 on the drive in regular use, or perhaps have one while they work on some other in-progress or previously abandoned classic car project. The endearing character, reliability and simply maintained mechanicals of the MX-5, make it stand out as a practical everyday classic car. The Club is delighted to welcome and sign up many hundreds of additional members at this show!
The Club stand is also pretty unique at this show as it features cars that people can interact with as they visit. There will also be some superb early examples of the marque, and for 2019 the stand is planned to feature each generation of the MX-5, from early mk1 through to the latest 2019 updates to the range.
While admiring all the cars at the show you can frequently bump into various motoring celebrities wandering the halls: the Club has invited a few over to the stand to help launch the anniversary year: take a few pictures on the stand and meet a few of our members. Ant Anstead, Fuzz Townshend, Jon Bentley and Chris Barrie are all passionate enthusiasts of the MX-5, and it’s hoped they and a few others will stop by throughout the show.
‘The NEC Classic is a fantastic day out,’ says Club chairman, Ted Mckay. ‘You are guaranteed there will be something to capture your imagination at the show and it certainly helps to highlight the British motoring heritage which inspired and shaped the development of the original MX-5.’
MX-5 Owners Club members are able to get some great discounts on single and family tickets for the show which is one of the most popular on the automotive national calendar, and another great reason to be a member of the Club.
