working from drawings, the printmaker Vanessa Lubach carves each layer of her designs out of lino. ‘The process is laborious but utterly engaging, and peeling up the finished print from the block is exhilarating,’ she says. The artist has been making multi-layered linocuts for 25 years in her little garden studio in Norwich, taking inspiration from the surrounding countryside and the home that she shares with her husband, three children and four cats, Tabitha, Minim, Helen and Hector. She paints portraits too, and her picture of her daughter Rosie with Pumpkin the family chicken was nominated for the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait Award in 2012. teresa fitzherbert www.vanes
