Artwork attack

-

A GROUP of vandals were seen kicking a popular piece of canalside artwork at Ellesmere in Shropshire in broad daylight, leaving a heavy piece of metal in a dangerous condition.

The zinc etching, called Bridge 58, was created by local artist Jason Hicklin to depict a view along the Llangollen Canal from The Wharf outside the town’s Tesco store.

It was installed eight years ago as part of the Ellesmere Sculpture Trail which runs around the town and the Mere.

The damaged artwork has been removed to see if it can be repaired. Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened at around 5pm on Saturday, June 6.
