The Nine Edges Derbyshire

Trail Running (UK) - - Routes -

The Dark Peak area offers some of the Peak District’s most spectacular rolling moorland and valley views. If you’re up for a longer distance run, the Nine Edges route is a great way to experience them.

Beginning with a 300-metre climb from Ladybower Reservoir up to the stunning Derwent Edge, the route follows a line of rocky gritstone outcrops above lakes and river valleys, under vast panoramic skies. It’s a brilliant introduction to distance trail running, as the terrain is steady, route finding is relatively easy and, after the initial climb, it’s predominantly flat or downhill.

The Nine Edges has become such an Outside shop staff favourite it is now their annual winter challenge. During September, Edale Mountain Rescue Team also organises a fundraising event following this route. The only downside is that it is a linear route, so you’ll need to work out transport logistics. Outside Ltd www.out
