Bez on the record trail
Mark Berry and the group of trail runners who set a relay fastest-known-time (FKT) on the South West Coast Path have done the same on the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke National Trail.
To start, 56-yearold ‘Bez’ ran the whole trail in 76hr 25min – deciding it was more important to enjoy the scenery and not run in the dark. When he reached the end at Prestatyn, a six-strong relay team started running back south, notching up the 177 miles in just 38hr 50min.
“What a manic weekend!” said Bez’s wife Lorraine. “It’s incredible how much space can be covered in a couple of days by a small amount of people. Everyone gave 100% and were exhausted at the end.” The team now aims to set records on all 16 of Britain’s National Trails.
