Alt-berg have been making boots for 27 years, so it’s surprising that they’ve only just made their first range of shoes. Our favourites are these Pathfinder Trails – the most colourful footwear to come out of the Alt-berg workshop. Their microfibre upper is light and breathable and the shoe’s S-Fit last is similar to the ergonomic A-Form last used in the Yan Tan and Nordkapp boots, but specifically for shoes. The result is precise-feeling footwear whose performance is further improved with the inclusion of a waterproof membrane and a Vibram Masai sole. So far we’ve only tested these on a spot of easy-going roadside cragging, but they proved to be excellent performers which look as good with casual jeans as they do with technical kit. They are also extremely comfortable. Alt-berg may have been late to the party, but the gift they’ve brought means all is forgiven.
