Vaude Zerum 48+ LW HOWEVER

-

£155 Capacity 48 to 56 litres Back sizes adjustable (mens) Weight 1217g

The weight sets this apart and it comprises a basic 48 litres plus an additional 8 litres by raising the floating lid. The back system is adjustable in length and has raised padded areas, to create minimal body contact. The back is well stiffened to support loads up to 12kg, while the body is made from nylon ripstop with a top opening only. There is a huge zipped front pocket as well as the usual lid pocket and a hipbelt pocket. Quick-release compression straps are provided and there is a nylon wand pocket on one side with a mesh bottle pocket on the other. This pack is part of Vaude’s Green Shape range due to its more eco-friendly materials.

There is no women’s option, so fit is more limited than others. Floating lids are not my favourite design, and this is no exception, but you also get a rather messy additional top opening cover under the lid to allow you to completely remove the lid. For me, a better design of lid would be better. Also, there is no base compartment and you only get wand pockets on one side, so this may or may not fit your packing style. The weight saving comes in part from lightweight materials, but these will no doubt be less durable than heavier designs so harder users may prefer others. The price tag is a drawback compared to other options.

A very lightweight option for its capacity. Ideal for overnighting, but small details, as well as the price tag, make it a considered purchase.
