Montane Dyno Stretch IT'S GOOD HOWEVER VERDICT

£100 Men’s S-XXL Women’s 8-16 Weight 507g (size L) Material Chameleon Kinetic (89% polyester, 11% Spandex)

Chameleon Kinetic is a non-membrane fabric so has excellent breathability but resists wind and water better than fleece. The figure-hugging fit is not restrictive due to the 4-way stretch material and the cuffs don’t ride up when scrambling. There is a little more length on the body than some other jackets, too, for better lower back protection. The hood gets a wired peak, face and volume drawcords and moves effortlessly with the head - it’s one of the best tested here. There are four chest pockets (the lower pair take an OS map) while the top pair are great for GPS receivers or small guidebooks.

There’s not much to complain about from a hillwalking or mountain scrambling perspective, other than it’s not the most water- or wind-resistant. The polyester material is not going to be as durable as nylon, although this will only be a consideration for the very hardest of users. There are lighter jackets and you can spend even less cash, and others are more stylish for the pub, but clearly I am clutching at straws now... No ifs or buts, this is a great jacket!

An outstanding soft shell jacket for hillwalking or mountain scrambling, unless you want more water or wind resistance and even more durability.
