IT'S GOOD

The Torres Alturo is designed to be worn over waterproof layers, so you can throw it on quickly without becoming chilled. To allow this, it is cut slightly wider on the sleeves and body areas. Like other Paramo garments it makes use of Nikwax-treated fabric to resist water ingress. It has two large pockets placed high on the body, there is Velcro cuff adjustment and the hood has face drawcords and rear volume adjustment. So this has more features than lower priced and lighter jackets. It's also warmer than many, making it suitable for winter.

HOWEVER

As you would expect with a jacket that is warmer and better featured than others, this does increase the price, weight and packed size. Another drawback is that as this is designed to be oversized to fit over waterproofs, when it is worn over less bulky layers it is a little baggy. So you need to use this as intended for best performance.

The hood is designed to fit over a climbing helmet but does not cinch down or move with the head as well as others.

VERDICT

Great if you plan to wear an insulated jacket over your waterproof in winter, but there are drawbacks to the design, including weight.
