Trail (UK) - - BASE CAMP -

The Ultimate soft shell has been around a while, and during that time has become a firm favourite of several members of the Trail gear review team. This year sees an update and relaunch of the jacket, and from what we’ve seen, the new Ultimate deserves to be even more popular than its predecessor. Using Gore Windstopper fabric, the Ultimate is tough, windproof and, thanks to the addition of a durable water-repellent coating, not phased by a bit of the wet stuff. Importantly, though, it’s also incredibly comfortable, being more breathable and less restrictive than a typical hard shell jacket. Because of this, it can be paired with insulated layers for more warmth in winter, worn under a hard shell in really wet spring or autumn weather, or just pulled over a base layer for wind protection on cooler, breezier summer days – the Ultimate in adaptability.

Capable of handling anything but full-on rain, the Ultimate V SO is a jacket for all seasons.
