MEET THE RUNNERS-UP

-

They may not have made the Marmot Awards final selection, but these four are more than deserving of a special Everest Anywhere mention…

Jill Blackwood

Jill has been smashing the Everest Anywhere challenge every year since 2018, and despite restrictions is on target for seven Everests this year! She’s got to know her local hill very well, with 93 ascents of Dalmun which has bagged her 135m each time!

Aiden Redfearn-Ward (4) Mum Charlotte nominated Aiden (5 on Christmas Day), who has achieved his first Everest Anywhere this year despite lockdowns. Hikes have included the challenging Hall’s Fell Ridge to Blencathra under the roped supervision of Daddy (Pete). Charlotte’s only slight concern is that Aiden will be climbing the ACTUAL Everest and leaving her behind before she knows it!

Elaine Cosgrove Elaine completed her first ever Everest thanks to her husband, the dog and her walking group, which started the challenge off last New Year’s Day with a walk in Diornwic Quarry, Gwynedd. “I miss my little walking group, but hopefully we will meet up again next year,” says Elaine.

Paul Batham Walking in the hills, moors and mountains has become a lifestyle for Paul and his 6-year-old son Charlie. “We spur each other on and keep each other smiling on all our adventures,” says Paul. “We’re currently at over 35 summits this year and I couldn’t have been paired up with a better hiking buddy. Long may it continue!”
