QIQ store the majority of my fishing tackle in the loft but it gets hot up there! I don't keep any of my fly-lines up there as I fear the heat may dry them out, but I have started worrying about the other gear. Howard Scott PETER COCKWILL REPLIES: Your carbon fly rods will not be affected by the heat in your loft, but your fly-lines are likely to become stiffer as the plasticisers leach out more quickly so you are right not to expose them to the hot conditions. Although fluorocarbons are supposedly not affected by heat and don't deteriorate like conventional mono, I would always play safe and replace them each year anyway. It’s a relatively minor cost when set against your actual fishing costs.
