When­ever choos­ing a tip­pet, one has to con­sider the prop­er­ties and knots are cru­cial. There are many to choose from but per­sonal choice comes down to a dou­ble grin­ner (uni) or four-turn wa­ter knot for drop­pers. For at­tach­ing a fly, with no mem­ory or ‘pig tail­ing’, es­pe­cially for dry fly, I rec­om­mend a knot re­ferred to as the JB knot - see be­low.

Pass through eye and form a loop as shown. Pass tag ends through loop three times. Pull tag ends so knot is loosely tight. Moisten then pull tag ends tight so knot slides to eye.
