THE Wadelight jacket utilises Hodgman’s three-layer waterproof, windproof and breathable V-TecH nylon/ polyester material that is exceptionally thin and light while also being durable. The result is a featherlight jacket that is the perfect packable ‘take anywhere’ waterproof. It also features the Sonic 2.0 seam technology, which means there is no stitching. Instead all the seams are welded and reinforced with waterproof tape. Seams have been kept away from vulnerable areas across the shoulders and the sleeves. The fabric also has a DWR coating so water just beads off. The inside face of this V-TecH fabric is a tactile polyester that isn’t at all ‘tacky’, something that can

be an issue with some lightweight waterproofs. So, if you wear this jacket over the top of a short-sleeved shirt there’s no clammy feeling against your skin; even if you generate a lot of body heat, it stays really comfortable and dry. This backing fabric also slides smoothly without friction over mid and base layers. A full length YKK water repellent main zip has an effective stormflap and rain gutter behind it. The built-in hood has a slightly stiffened peak and an elasticated cord around the face with a toggle lock fastener each side for a snug fit. The sleeves are slightly contoured and have elasticated rubberised neoprene cuffs with Velcro tab closures to ensure a comfortable and tight seal around the wrists. A neat gusseted and vented panel underneath the armpits features tiny perforations that allow for extra breathability. Pocket layout is very simple, with two waist and one small vertical chest pocket, all with YKK water repellent zips and good size pull tabs. The jacket also has an elasticated drawcord and double toggle lock adjuster around the bottom hem. Available in sizes S-XXL.

I’ve worn this jacket during some heavy downpours this season and it has never let me down. The DWR coating is still going strong and it bears no signs of any wear. Once the rain has passed, I just shake the jacket dry and pack it away. Good breathability and the vent holes under the arms do make a difference. Even though the only adjustment for the hood is around the face, it is a great fit. One of the best lightweight waterproofs I have ever tested.

Tiny holes under the arms allow for ventilation.

The neoprene cuff design provides a good seal.
