Scierra Brook II fly line £29.99

Trout Fisherman (UK) - - Tackle -

THIS specialist ‘short head’ floating line is aimed at the angler who is after accuracy and light line presentation for top of the water work whether it be on small rivers or stillwaters. The 82-foot line is two-tone in colour with a white 26-foot head length and a grey running line and is available in a weight forward profile in line sizes 2 to 6. Unlike other lines in the Scierra portfolio, this one does not come with welded loops or laser printed line id at the front end. The line is supplied on a wide spool which really helps in keeping initial line memory to a minimum. It is built around a braided nylon core which is fairly low stretch along its length. As I ran the line through my fingers I couldn’t detect any imperfections and found it to have a silkysmooth PVC coating. I had a 5wt on test and matched it up to both a fast and a middle to tip action 9ft rod. The line’s shorter head length made quick work of loading the rod and the subsequent line shoot was slick and accurate with very good turnover. At short and medium range the line worked an absolute treat and did whatever I asked of it, A slightly longer casting stroke allowed me to gain some impressive distance and although the head is short it is very well balanced, allowing me to hang it outside the rod tip for even more length on the cast.

VERDICT:

Being able to load the rod quickly makes this line ideal when you are tight for casting space, whether on a stream or stillwater, and the turnover and presentation you can achieve is very nice indeed.
