SEARCHING IS THE NAME OF THE GAME
Unlike dry fly fishing when trout give away their position, few clues exist to lead us directly to feeding trout when nymphing. Instead, we rely on past experience and/or searching the water. It makes sense to start where you experienced success on your last outing. Search the water methodically by fan casting before taking a few paces along the bank. Remember too that flies presented at various angles invariably fish back on a curved plane that often entice fish. Make a point of hunting out underwater features, like a weedy bay, sunken trees, or other submerged structure.
