1 Start layering up with clothing for winter. It’s not cold yet but it can be changeable. A fleece/ waterproof coat is a must. 2 A floating line is always your main line of attack but when fishing subsurface flies it often pays to use an intermediate line in autumn because it cuts through the surface and offers greater control on windy days. And there are plenty of breezy days now. 3 Traditional wet flies may be old and in some areas out of fashion, but they work just as well as the modern flies and look beautiful too. Try them because they’re fun to use. 4 Using a tapered leader with a mini ring at the end to attach tippets and a dropper is becoming very popular because you don’t lose all your leader if you get broken.
