Easily-stowed drogue

Wychwood Pack-Away International Para-Drogue £29.99

Trout Fisherman (UK) - - Tackle -

WHAT makes this drogue different from Wychwood’s existing para-drogue is that it has its own built-in storage bag with carry handle. No longer do you need to hunt around for something to stuff the soaking wet drogue in at the end of a session – the bag actually forms part of the drogue so you don’t have to think about storage. The drogue is made from heavy-duty nylon that has been given a waterproof finish on the inside. It has two sets of one-inch wide nylon webbing straps which come together in a triangular metal connector. To this is tied a five metre rot-proof rope, at the other end of which is an alloy caribiner. The drogue measures 1.77 x 1.25 metres so falls within the international sizing rules which state a drogue must be less than 25 square foot. All the seams and webbing straps have been stitched really well and I couldn’t find any loose ends or weak points. Although each webbing strap is a continuous length it only connects to the drogue itself by five inches, it would have been better if it was a continuous piece running right along each edge for maximum strength. To get at the drogue, loosen the nylon cord and toggle lock closure around the top of the stuff bag, hold onto the carry handle with one hand and with the other pull out the drogue. At the end of the session, just stuff it back into its stuff sack. While the drogue’s waterproof finish will shed most of the water, I would still advise that you open it up to completely dry out when you get home.

VERDICT:

This drogue is all about the convenience of being able to stuff it into its own bag. If you are new to drogues then check out the simple and straightforward drift control instructions on the side of the box.
