Spring is of­ten re­garded as the prime win­dow for the nymph fisher when the likes of buzzers, or lake olives are in sea­son. That said, nymph­ing tac­tics can be em­ployed at any­time of the year. Win­ter months in par­tic­u­lar are a favourite pe­riod, es­pe­cially on hard-fished wa­ters. Now, trout that have seen it all are more likely to re­spond to the softly, softly ap­proach. We need to re­mem­ber win­ter is when all the nymphs of emer­gent in­sects are busy de­vel­op­ing be­neath the waves!
