I AM indebted to John Eardley for being able to write “The final straw” [T&S, March]. Without his informative and analytical contribution to a letter sent to the National Assembly for Wales, common sense would not have prevailed in Welsh fishery policy. John has worked tirelessly, often single-handedly, on proposed rodand-line restrictions over many turbulent years, as stocks declined and hatcheries were forced to close. John is owed a massive thank you from fishermen throughout Wales for being the one who has spoken out and attempted to rein in runaway and short-sighted regulations, perceived by many as being damaging to the future of the fish stocks, environment and economy of Wales.
