WHERE TO STAY

Mill of Dess Lodge (above) opened in the summer of 2015. Converted from existing farm buildings and accompanying a renovation of Mill Cottage, it provides Deeside with high-quality accommodation. The lodge is resplendent with distressed mirrors, antler chandeliers and woodburning stoves. Relax in the lounge with a drink before dinner, which is served on a long banquet table, before retreating to one of the extremely comfortable bedrooms – each named after a different pool. Unlike Mill Cottage, the lodge doesn’t have a view of the river, but it does have lovely views of surrounding fields, forests and hills. On-site kennels make it dog-friendly too. Access to the fishing is very good with vehicle tracks to most pools. At the award-winning hut on Upper Dess anglers can enjoy a reviving lunch while relaxing in battered leather armchairs beneath mounted stag heads.
