Luke Bannister’s rods are influenced by the type of fishing he enjoys, from small Westcountry trout streams to Welsh rivers, from wild brown trout to bass in the surf. With enough care and attention to detail cane rods can be made that cope with these different challenges. Traditional Garrison and Leonard tapers are available along with the signature Superfast, which is designed to have a quick action for cane and therefore feel more familiar to the angler who is used to fishing with a carbon rod (all rods are priced at £925). The delicate tip will present dry-flies with great accuracy and finesse while the powerful butt will lift and cast heavier nymphs and cast larger dry-flies, even into a breeze. All rods are hollow built and hand planed in Luke’s Cornish workshop using traditional tools and the finest-quality components. Luke will even build twohanded 12 ft split-cane salmon rods for 8 wt to 9 wt lines (£2,250).
