A cure for cormorants

Trout & Salmon (UK) - - LETTERS -

Ronnie Glass (August) reports two 16in trout with cormorant damage, and wonders what damage up to 80 cormorants have done on the middle Tweed. I managed to persuade Natural England to raise our cull quota from eight to ten birds for last winter (September to April inclusive) after I shot the eighth bird in the process of swallowing a sea-trout of at least 2lb at the junction of the Lyd and Tamar. I leave readers to reflect on what damage 36 grams of no. 4 shot can do to a cormorant at 15 yards. David Pilkington, Devon
