Salmon fry galore

Trout & Salmon (UK) - - LETTERS -

I have just returned from three days fishing the Tyne at Bywell – normally a prolific beat, but the relentlessly scorching weather made it hard work and fishless, despite the sterling efforts of Garry, the gillie. However, one remarkable feature was the vast shoals of salmon fry in the margins of the river. There were thousands and thousands following you as you stirred up the mud. I understand that the Lune is experiencing a similar phenomenon, so could this have anything to do with the fact that both these rivers have a hatchery? I await a response from the EA or NRW! Steve Dallaghan, Clwyd
