Trout & Salmon (UK) - - Fishing Reports - PHILIP EL­LIS.

JULY AND Au­gust were very quiet on the sal­mon front with a few fish seen but noth­ing much do­ing. With tem­per­a­tures into the 30s and bright blue skies it wasn’t fair to try and fish for them. Even the trout fish­ing died off. At time of writ­ing (Au­gust 24) we have had a cou­ple of de­cent lifts and Michael Charl­ton Weedy went on to land a lovely 10lb fish from the Up­per River. There were also fish hooked, played and lost lower down. There are re­ports of sig­nif­i­cant num­bers of fish mov­ing through the counter. The River Swale has had a de­cent run and a well-known weir has been a hotspot for tak­ing pho­tographs and videos of jump­ing fish. It’s mar­vel­lous to see sal­mon re­colonis­ing the greater Ouse sys­tem. We have also been work­ing hard to get our sea­son pulled for­ward to Fe­bru­ary 1 in line with many other rivers in the UK and fol­low­ing sev­eral surg­eries with my MP Rishi Su­nak we have fi­nally got some­where. We have been given the go-ahead from the head of the EA, sub­ject to fur­ther con­sul­ta­tion, with a view to get­ting it in place for next sea­son. I must stress it has to go to con­sul­ta­tion but it is the fur­thest we have got with this is­sue -
