Size variation

Trout & Salmon (UK) - - Know How -

I often see fly-boxes in which there are lots of different trout patterns but all are a similar size, generally about a size 14. Size is one of the most important criteria in matching the hatch. Rather than having 20 different size 14 dry-flies you would do better picking an effective general pattern such as a Parachute Adams and have three of each size from size 10 to size 20. This adds up to a similar number of flies, but is much more versatile as they cover the size range of 95 per cent of UK upwing flies.
