BEN HARDY stars in a stunning adaptation of Wilkie Collins’ famous Victorian novel
WILKIE COLLINS’1859 novel The Woman in White, widely seen as the first psychological thriller, has been adapted for a spellbinding five-part BBC1 period drama, scheduled to air next year.
This spooky shot sees former Eastenders and X-men: Apocalypse actor Ben Hardy as artist Walter Hartright, who encounters an enigmatic woman dressed in white. He’s then embroiled in a dark mystery after he is sent to a country house to teach warmhearted young Laura Fairlie (Apple Tree Yard’s Olivia Vinall).
The Last Post’s Jessie Buckley co-stars as Laura’s spirited half-sister Marian Halcombe, who is desperate to protect her beloved sibling. ‘She has such a strength and rooted integrity,’ says Buckley.
‘In the midst of this Victorian male world you find Marian, who is undefined by her sex and undefined by her society.’
Dougray Scott co-stars as Laura’s fiancé, Sir Percival Glyde, along with Charles Dance as her uncle. Art Malik, Joanna Scanlan, Vicki Pepperdine and Riccardo Scamarcio also appear.
