Bill joins the club

TV Times - - Puzzles -

Former stand-up comic Bill Maynard drew on his own experiences for Oh No, It’s Selwyn Froggitt, ITV’S hit comedy about a hopelessly inept but well-meaning council workman, who, as a result of a joke, finds himself appointed as concert secretary at his local working men’s club in Yorkshire.

‘Working men’s clubs are marvellous places,’ the future Heartbeat star told us, ‘but the way they are run has to be seen to be believed. On one occasion, I was summoned to appear before the members’ committee for pulling the handle of the one-armed bandit too hard and censured as to my future conduct!’

only Selwyn gave himself the thumbs up
