Murder SPECIAL! Maiden of death

TV Times - - News -

there are no Abbey endings as Downton sweetheart Jo plays murderer Mary ann

Brace yourselves, Downton Abbey fans! Joanne Froggatt has transformed herself into a terrifying serial killer for her next role – and there’s not even a flicker of kindly housemaid anna Bates.

the 36-year-old actress is set to send shivers down our spines in itv’s two-part thriller Dark Angel, based on the real-life murders of victorian-era villain Mary ann cotton. Known as Britain’s first serial killer, Mary ann travelled around the north east, marrying and murdering a succession of husbands as well as her children and stepchildren by poisoning them, and often collecting on the life insurance.

‘it’s exciting to play a character who’s so different from anna Bates,’ Joanne tells TV Times News. ‘plus, it’s an interesting story to tell.’

the trailer for the drama shows psychopath Mary ann buying arsenic to kill bed bugs… and, eventually, her unfortunate victims.
