Steven puts his foot down when Jane tries to help out at Beale’s
oor Jane. As if she hadn’t already been dealt a rubbish hand, getting saddled with
Ian Beale for a husband, now she’s got his rotten stepson, Steven, to contend with. Not content with shooting her in the stomach nine years ago and blowing her chances of having kids, this week he puts the mockers on her efforts to reclaim some independence by returning to work at the restaurant.
So many of the seemingly simple things that Jane took for granted now feel like an impossibility thanks to the injuries she sustained during Bobby’s attack. But her friends and family are keen to help, and Ian does his bit by asking Stacey to give his wife a makeover at Elysium. Soon, Jane is interacting with the locals again – a welcome change from staring at four walls – and she gets the chance to show off her glamorous new look when she joins
Carmel for a drink at the Vic.
PBut it’s a case of one step forward, two steps back. Just when she’s starting to feel like her old self, an incident in the pub leaves her mortified. Ian has to take her home, and she feels even worse when he keeps avoiding her.
Jane tells her husband she wants them to be a normal couple again and, though he initially avoids confronting the issue, he’s given food for thought by Billy. Soon, things are on the up, and the pair discuss the possibility of Jane helping out at Beale’s.
Steven’s strongly against the idea, and Jane and Ian are taken aback as he shuts the conversation down. But Jane remains keen to have some involvement, and later turns up at the restaurant with Sharon. She’s given a big confidence boost as she deals with phone calls and reservations, but Steven is clearly rattled – the last thing he wants is her checking the accounts and discovering what he’s up to. Desperate to see the back of her, he implies that her wheelchair is getting in the way.
It does the trick, and a fragile Jane asks Ian to take her home. How will this affect her recovery? And when will she and
Ian finally uncover
