Face of evil
tim roth cuts a striking image as serial killer John christie in new true-life BBC drama Rillington Place
Here are the first official shots from BBC1’S chilling upcoming drama Rillington Place, based on the real-life multiple murders carried out by John Christie in
London’s Notting Hill in the 1940s and 1950s.
Tim Roth is snapped looking thoroughly creepy as
Christie, who murdered at least eight women by strangling them in his flat. Samantha Morton is also pictured as Christie’s wife, Ethel, who was among his victims. The three-part drama opens with newlyweds Timothy (Nico Mirallegro) and Beryl Evans (Jodie Comer) moving into a neighbouring flat before they come under his terrible spell. Timothy is seen in handcuffs after being wrongly arrested for Christie’s crimes. He was later hanged and the miscarriage of justice contributed towards the abolition of capital punishment in Britain.
‘This is a story you just can’t look away from: an unlikely serial killer who orchestrated a devastating miscarriage of justice,’ say Rillington Place writers Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone.
Christie eventually confessed and was hanged on 15 July 1953.
