Sykes bow-wows out
dci Barnaby to get dogged new sidekick
ew sidekicks come along like buses in ITV’S long-running Midsomer Murders, which returns next year.
Not only is Nick Hendrix joining the show as DS Jamie Winter following the departure of DS Charlie Nelson (Gwilym Lee), two-year-old terrier cross Paddy is replacing 13-year-old Sykes. The Jack Russell has now hung up his collar after five years of starring with Neil Dudgeon’s DCI John Barnaby.
‘Sykes can relax and enjoy his retirement, while some of us have got to keep slogging away,’ says Neil.
Paddy’s already impressed the cast with his skills. ‘He has a marvellous party trick where, from a standing start, he jumps up to eye level with you,’ reveals Neil. ‘He’s good with the little girls who play [Barnaby’s daughter] Betty, too, so hopefully there’ll be lots more fun to be had.’
