First official pictures of suranne Jones reprising her hit role
Has troubled GP Gemma Foster turned to drink to deal with her problems in Doctor Foster, or is she toasting the success of another vengeful scheme?
These intriguing shots of Suranne Jones as the cuckolded medic are the first official snaps from the second series of the hit BBC1 drama, now being filmed in Hertfordshire.
The first, which saw Gemma plot revenge after discovering her husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) was having an affair with a much younger woman who was one of her patients, had the nation gripped.
The explosive finale, which won more than 10 million viewers, saw Simon leave their home in fictional Parminster with his now pregnant mistress Kate Parks (Jodie Comer), while Gemma remained with their young son Tom (Tom Taylor). The new five-part series, penned again by Mike Bartlett, airs next year and explores how Gemma and Simon are surviving the breakdown of their marriage.
‘We look at what happens to a woman after divorce, when deceit and revenge have taken their toll,’ explains Suranne, 38, who wasn’t certain whether she wanted to repeat her Bafta-winning performance.
‘I didn’t know whether there should be a series two. But when they told me what they wanted to do, I felt that nothing like it had been done on television before.’
The series is also the first big job for the actress after giving birth to a son by her magazine editor husband Laurence Akers in March.
‘I’ll find out what all this new mummy-ness will bring to my role!’ smiles Suranne.
Filming is advanced on the drama’s repeat prescription the Gp and her errant husband
