f all the dances performed in series six of Strictly Come Dancing, few were as entertaining as John Sergeant’s hilarious paso doble with long-suffering partner Kristina Rihanoff.

OStrictly That look of horror on Manuel’s face as he emerged from the kitchen screaming, his jacket smoking from the fire he’d started, was for real. ‘I was starting to smoulder and was really in pain,’ Andrew Sachs recalled in his 2014 autobiography I Know Nothing!. ‘I had become a victim of overconfident so-called stunt experts.’

When Andrew removed Manuel’s waiter’s uniform, he found his arm had been burned red raw. ‘John made a great fuss, quite rightly,’ the actor continued. ‘I was sent to a doctor in Harley Street who told me I’d have scars for the rest of my life. The sum total of the BBC’S compensation

came to £700.’
