24 Hours in A&E
documentary / 9.00pm / C4
mothers and sons are the common thread as cameras return to the A&E department of St George’s Hospital in south London. Two 17-year-old lads are admitted as the new series begins – Shea has suffered a stab wound to the chest in an unprovoked knife attack, while Bob has managed to impale his leg on some railings after taking a short cut on the way home from school. While the amazing staff go about their business, the patients’ worried mums open up about their relationships with their boys. With the election looming, this is a timely reminder of just how good our cash-strapped NHS is.
