On the cover in... 1961
It wasn’t the first royal wedding to
be televised – that honour went to Princess Margaret’s marriage to Antony Armstrong-jones the previous year – but there was still much excitement over ITV’S coverage of the Duke of Kent’s wedding to Katharine Worsley on 8 June 1961.
‘Katharine is friendly, charming and unspoilt,’ a local from the bride’s home village of Hovingham, North Yorkshire, told TV Times.
The pair are still married but the Duchess largely gave up royal duties in 2002.
