HOW PITCH BATTLE WORKS
Each week, the show begins with a dramatic themed ‘Mash-up’ featuring all six choirs taking part in that week’s heat.
the competition then begins with three showstopper and themed ‘riff-off’ rounds featuring two choirs each. From each, Gareth and Kelis choose one choir to go through.
then in the solo battle round, the three remaining choirs nominate someone to perform a solo, backed by their team. afterwards, Gareth and Kelis pick two groups to send
through to the next round. in the final battle, the two groups ‘share’ a song which has been made famous by that week’s guest judge. near the end of the performance, during an instrumental break, the guest judge will head to the stage, with a microphone in hand, to join the choir that the judges have agreed should go through to the live final at the end of the series.
For the choir that hasn’t made it through to the final, all is not lost because they still have a chance to grab the last spot in the Grand final as Gareth and Kelis have a ‘wildcard’ entry, chosen at the end of heat five.
