In her third stint as Helen Fielding’s irrepressible Bridget Jones, Renée Zellweger proves as funny and endearing as ever. This time, poor Bridget has a new predicament: pregnancy. And she doesn’t know who the daddy is. The prospective father is either Patrick Dempsey’s rich American, following a fling at a music festival, or Colin Firth, courtesy of the briefest of rebounds a few days later. The rivalry between the smooth Yank and ill-at-ease Englishman produces the odd snigger, while Emma Thompson provides her share of giggles as Bridget’s droll gynaecologist. But it’s Zellweger who delivers the film’s heartiest, most joyfully goodnatured guffaws. Dir: Sharon Maguire 2016, 15, 130min
