Robbie the enforcer!
The ex-roadsweeper arrives in the Square to take charge of the market – closely followed by sister Sonia…
Robbie tries to get the marketstall holders to chant and meditate
You wouldn’t trust Robbie Jackson to organise a booze-up in a brewery, so it’s no wonder the Bridge Street traders are speechless when the former roadsweeper is unveiled as the new part-time Market Enforcement Officer.
It’s all Carmel’s fault. Now that she has got a job in the council’s planning department, there’s only so much time she can spend pacing up and down with a clipboard, and she needs back-up. No-one can believe it when Robbie appears in his suit – a big change from his hiviz vest of old. And Martin, Kush and Donna feel like they’ve entered the twilight zone when he later leads them on a training day.
‘Robbie’s spent a lot of time in India, and he tries to get the stallholders to chant and meditate,’ reveals Dean Gaffney, who was last in the soap for a guest stint in 2015, when screen mum Carol left. ‘They look at him like they don’t know what the hell he’s on about.’
Robbie’s not the only member of the Jackson clan coming home this week – so, too, is Sonia. She was last in Walford in September, when she brought Shirley Carter down a peg or two before taking up a nursing job in Kettering. It was supposed to be a dream promotion, so why has Sonia suddenly turned her back on it? Was she missing all those theme nights in The Vic, or is there another reason?
Plenty of folk are pleased to see her, but none more so than Dot. She has earlier had a fall after tripping up over Dave the cat, and is left stranded on the floor for hours until Sonia finally finds her.
As Dot is taken to hospital, where she has an operation on her hip, Sonia rails at the locals for not checking up on the pensioner after she failed to show up at Patrick’s birthday drinks in The Vic.
Meanwhile, Sonia also has a run-in with Martin. She wants their daughter Bex to move out of his and Stacey’s place and live with her and Robbie at their new flat. As Bex overhears them rowing about it, the teenager feels torn over what to do. Will she pack her bags or stay put?
